Aisha al-Mansoori, a 33-year-old Emirati pilot at Etihad Airways, the national airline of the UAE, earned her stripes as the country’s first female captain in a commercial airline! This is a major milestone for women and a game-changer in UAE aviation.
The Captain’s journey began 15 years ago when she joined Etihad’s Cadet Pilot program. At the time, al-Mansoori was one of only two UAE National females in her group. In 2010, al-Mansoori graduated and embarked on her first flight on an Airbus A320 to Amman, Jordan. She climbed the ranks and transitioned to the role of a Senior First Officer. Then she became the first female UAE national to fly the superjumbo passenger aircraft, the Airbus A380. Finally, after rigorous checks, exams, and flying hours, she officially became the first Emirati female Captain to hold an Air Transport Pilot License in the UAE.
To coincide with Emirati Women’s Day on August 28th, al-Mansoori kicked off her regular flying duties as a Captain – a fitting beginning to celebrate female empowerment!
